We moved into our house a little over a year ago and our office / guest room is one of the last rooms on the first floor to receive any attention. It has been collecting overflow decor items and has been a stash zone for things that we couldn’t find a place for. Well…with my husband needing a home office and guests arriving in a month, it was time to spend a little time editing and organizing this space. A desk is a MUST since the hubs works from home and the one we have it a little banged up. I still need to add a fresh coat of spray paint to the desk but updating the hardware was a quicker option to hold me over until I can tackle the painting. Here is what the hardware looked like before…not bad, but not awesome.
I had this random idea of industrial chic hardware when I saw these mending plates at Home Depot…and with some basic supplies, they would be exactly what I envisioned.
Here are the supplies you will need:
#10 Brass Machine Screws (I used 1.5″ screws based on the drawer thickness)
Rustoleum Metallic Spray Paint
I first started by removing the original hardware.
I was able to use one of the original holes and from there use one of the mending plates as a template to mark the other holes needed.
I matched my drill bit with the existing hole and drilled 5 new ones.
Then I spray painted the mending plates with Rustoleum Metallic Gold Spray Paint. Once the paint is dry, use 2 nuts on the back of the plates to created the handle depth. You could add as many as you like if you want the pulls to stick out further, but keep in mind to adjust the screw length accordingly.
Once all of the nuts are attached, place the screws into the new holes and attach on the inside of the drawer with more nuts. See how AWESOMESAUCE these new pulls are???!!
See how easy it was to take this hardware from drab to fab?!! Go ahead give it a try and tag us on instagram so we can see your fabulousness!!
Oh…and here is a PEEK at the guest room…we will do a full reveal when it is all complete!!
